On Monday, May 7th, 2018, at 18:00, a promotional event for kiwi was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. In particular, the event took place in a hall of the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel. The main speaker was Mr. Georgios Tzounopoulos, spokesman for the Agricultural Cooperative of Meliki, who referred to information about the kiwi production and answered questions from the audience and the guests. At the same time, the presentation of Mrs. Marianna Theyse (General Manager of the Association of Fresh Fruit Importers) was also very interesting; she put forward several arguments on why the South African market is attractive for the import of kiwi and what are the prospects opened for further increase in imported quantities. To the same extent, the contribution to the event of the nutritionist Nicci Robertson, who analyzed the beneficial properties of kiwi consumption, was equally important. The event was honored with the presence of Mr. Eleftherios Kouvaritakis, the Ambassador of Greece to South Africa, who briefly spoke of the great potential of the consumer audience of the African continent and then stressed the need for further expanding commercial activities by adding other fresh products. The event was also attended by the Head of the Office of economic and commercial affairs in Johannesburg Mr. Apostolos Michalopoulos as well as by the Consul General Mr. Ioannis Chatzantonakis. It is important to note that the event was honored with the presence and a brief speech by Ms. Dessislava Choumelova (Counsellor of the Trade and Economic Section of the EU Delegation) representing the Commissioner for Economic and Commercial Policy of the European Union in South Africa.
